Expert Solution

Basically, the conservation of genes through evolution in simpler terms means how the genes were passed from one generation to another to their offsprings. The genes that are passed are the heritable genes of that organism. The characteristics that are common and that are able to survive in an environment can eventually reproduce and can be passed to the next generation. In order to survive, the organism has to survive through the fittest meaning they need to adapt themselves to their environment. The ones that can adapt well can survive and the ones that cannot eventually die. Our fossil record shows that genes that are conserved show life on earth that has a common ancestor connecting living organisms approximately 3.5 billion years ago.

Yeast cell has been used remarkedly in some human diseases at the cellular and molecular levels. It was found that certain human mutations that were found to occur in certain genes were having some orthology with yeast cells. Yeast as a model has been used in many neurological disorders caused by protein misfolding. Apart from this, yeast cells have also been used in Alzheimer's disease and some metabolic diseases. Nowadays, it's been used as a tool for identifying new drugs and their targets.

Genes that perform certain functions in lower animals have been maintained even in human DNA shows that genes have been conserved throughout the evolution. This was an example given by the human genome project.

So, the correct answer is d. upheld by all of the above
