A.How does the transportation revolution (roads, canals, railways, steamships, etc.) transform America?
Answer- Advancement In technology brought road lines, steamships,railways Which the historians regard as transportation revolution.
The revolution started with the construction of roads which started in 1811 as the Cumberland road which was a national highway provided thousands of people a route from Maryland to illinois.The federal government funded this project by creating infrastructure of road transport for the benefit of settlers and farmers.
Canals
Canals which were built in United States facilitated travellers with less amount of money and time. Short waterways such as the two and a half mile long canal going around ohio River was a huge leap in this by opening a water route form Pittsburgh to Orleans.The constitution of canals also facilitated trade and businesses as now goods could be transported in bulk with less cost.
Railroads-
In the late 1820s steams locomotives began competing with horse drawn locomotives .
The Mohawk and Hudson rail road was the first railroad which began its service with a steam locomotive.Its first train ran in 1831 which was on a track outside Albany covering 12 miles in 25 minutes.
In the middle of the century railroad construction boosted and many new investors formed a number of new railroad companies. As railroads began to gain pace the demand for coal, iron and steel increased, soon railroads and canals provided a strong transportation infrastructure which boosted the growth of American commerce.
The increase in roads, railway and canals changed people's lives and facilitated them with ease of transportation.
The revolution of transportation mad it possible to ship manufactured and agricultural goods across the country,and enabled people to travel from towns to cities in seek of employment.
