The industrial revolution in particular was considered to have been one of the greatest effects on the planet relative to the other great periods of time. Any of the biggest are technological developments that lead to scientific breakthroughs. It was during the 18th century that the use and application of these "new" technologies enabled scientists to discover cures for many previously incurable illnesses. The government of the time was also compelled to improve working standards and provide improved sanitation, which in turn helped and minimize disease risk and raise life expectancy

It all started with the discovery by numerous scientists of the properties of chloroform and ether in the 1850s, making surgery effectively painless, although there was still a significant amount of pain after the anaesthetic effects wore off. On screen is a diagram showing the general evolution of surgery and medicine. Despite recognizing this, in the following years the number of people able to undergo surgical operations tripled.

Wilhelm Röntgen invented the use of x-rays in medical imaging in 1895, which brought great change to the scientific field and to surgery itself. Without such a discovery the medical history of the world wouldn't have been the same. All these medical inventions and advances have paved the way for a successful medical world as we know it. The computers, medicines, surgeries all came from the Industrial Revolution era. They have grown and developed over the years, of course, and will continue to evolve as time progresses. Unless there never had been a revolution like this the world may never have seen a transition. Our lives and futures to come should be changed for ever because of the scientific developments in the industrial revolution
