A gas has a volume of 4.00 L at 0 degree Celsius. what final
temperature, in degrees Celsius, is needed to change the volume of
the gas to each of the following, if n and P do not change?
(a) 1.50 L
(b) 1200 ml
As per charles law, if pressure is kept constant, temperature is directly proportional to volume.
T1/T2 =V1/V2
T2 = T1v2 / V1 where temperature in kelvin and volume in litres.
1)when V2 = 1.5L, T2= 273.15 *1.5 / 4
=409.725 /4
=102.43 K = -170.710C
(0.0k = -273.150C , 00C = 273.15K)
temperature in celsius = temperature in kelvin - 273.15
Tc =102.43 - 273.15 = -170.710C
2) when v=1200ml = 1.2 litres
T2 =273.15 *1.2 /4 =327.78/4
=81.945K
Tc = 81.945 -273.15 = -191.2050C
