Article Summary – Carr & Durand(1985)
E. G. Carr and V. M. Durand wrote an article over the relation between functional communication and behavior problems. As we know, since humans started to live as a society, communication become and most appropriate and essential tool of behavior development and social learning. Communication helps us to express feelings, ideas and needs in front of society so that they must be considered as an important and essential thing.
Carr and Durand conducted two experiments to understand the role of communications in the process of behavior development, the first experiment tested situations that develop different behavioral problems such as aggression, tantrums, and self-injury. The second experiment has been conducted to evaluate the relation between misbehavior and functional communication.
The research describes the role of functional communication and development of behavior, the perspectives of behavior development involve many factors and functional communication is one of them. The role of communication is always been a very essential part of behavior development and the study of Carr and Durand helps us to understand multiple perspectives of behavior development and factors affecting this process.
