Suppose you have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder or substance dependence and are trying to decide whether to enroll in individual therapy or group therapy. In 200-300 words, describe your decision-making process (i.e., how you weigh the pros and cons of both modalities), choose a course of action, and discuss why you chose that option
If i had been diagnosed with anxiety disorder i would opt for the group therapy because it many advantages than the individual therapy.it will give me a secure feeling that iam not alone and i can interact with people who have the same problem, sharing my thoughts and feelings.By interacting in a group my coping mechanism improves, I will gain more confidence to face the situation. When we interact in a group we often discuss what each other is going through and we are assured that those symptoms that we have is common .We share our ideas and i get support from all the members in the group,It would also work less on my budget as the cost is spread out with other members in the group. The only factor that i would be concerned is i may not be able to discuss certain problems with the therapist in front of the group members, and one to one therapy may be found more effective in case of anxiety disorder.in one to one basis the therapist will be able to focus on my issues the whole time period of counselling. In case of anxiety disorder one to one is very effective and in case of substance abuse group therapy is recommended.
