A bacterium that causes very similar symptoms sometimes contains Tn6687. Describe the steps that would happen to transfer this to another bacterium.

**please explain and answer question complyely. I think it has something to do with horizontal gene transfer, however I am unsure**

Solutions

Expert Solution

The Tn66887 gene is a with integrative conjugative elements. This offers multidrug resistance to the bacteria. It was firstly discovered in the genes of Hemophilus influenza bacterium. In this bacteria some of them that contained this gene were resistant to certain antibiotics and also manifested some toxic conditions to the host. This gene was transfered through conjugation in the bacteria to other non Tn6687 gene containing bacteria thereby giving them the same resistance and also the ability to produce symptoms.

The steps that would happen to transfer this to another bacterium are:

1. The formation of the sex pili between two related bacterial species.

2. the rolling circle model of conjugation between the two bacterial species where the genes get exchanged.

3. As this gene is integrative conjugative element it can integrate into the genome of the bacteria.
Hence the process of transfer of genes is complete.

IF you have any query kindly comment before giving thumbs up. Thank you.
