A leader's level of emotional intelligence may play a particularly important role in leadership:
Empathy and therefore the understanding of emotions is one of
the most important considerations for a leader. The fact that
leadership is to people, what management is to process, creates the
necessary considerations for a lead to be emotionally intelligent
and in control of their cognitive functions in order to best
utilize their duties. For a leader, forming better interpersonal
relationships with their subordinates becomes a necessity and
therefore, the need to develop a high level of emotional
intelligence would not only help foster this relationship but also
provide the necessary outlook when faced with situations that
require the absolute understanding of both emotions and
objectivity. The leader can be sure that their decisions are not
filled with any biases that may become evident due to their lack of
emotional control and thereby, a holistic view towards leadership
can be established.
