Explain the basics of the cultural identity development process.
People typically go through six stages of cultural identity development process. During the first stage, people are captivated in their own culture without any understanding or knowledge about other cultures. When people become aware of the other cultures in the second stage which is also known as the encapsulation stage, they would be very defensive and supportive of their own culture and would hold their values high and disregard others. During the third stage ethnic identity clarification, people would start emerging their own cultural identity free from the clutches of their cultures which would lead them to the fourth stage bi-ethnicity where they would also respect other cultures. During the fifth stage, people would be able to understand the importance of other cultures and would adopt the good things in them. finally, they would become global citizens by not identifying themselves with a particular identity but develop their cultural competency in order to work in a global environment.
