Erik Erikson theory of psychosocial development stated that personality development in a predefined order of psychosocial development in 8 particular stages. These changes start from infancy go through adulthood. During every stage the individual experiences a different kind of psychological crisis which could have a positive affect or negative affect on the personality of the individual.
This theory still holds up in today's society as the theory takes into account the societal factors which count in the formation of personality of an individual. There is research available which supports the theory and this theory is one the the basis of studies when it comes to developmental psychology. It is argumentative that the theories which was formed in the twentieth century can have a discrepancy with the context of ethics and discrimination concepts of the 21st century. A lot has been changed since 1972 when this theory was formed.
