I agree with the statement that knowing your emotional intelligence will make you a better leader. This is so because emotional intelligence enables a person to identify & monitor his/her own emotions & those of other people around them. It gives the ability to manage oneself & to deal successfully with other people. It helps us to motivate ourselves & motivate other people. It helps us to regulate emotions in a way that promotes emotional & intellectual growth. A person who knows about his own emotional intelligence is well aware of how he is feeling, what does his emotions mean & how it will affect people around them. Being a leader is not a easy job & therefore, leaders must have high level of emotional intelligence which will help them to control their emotions & think well before acting. Emotional intelligence will help leaders to remain optimistic during times of change & uncertainity & this will enable them to achieve the important goals efficiently & effectively as well as they will be able to lead others positively. Emotional intelligence will help leaders to build good relationship with their team members, contribute towards their development & lead successfully. Also, it will enable leaders to increase their ability to lead, increase team performance, decrease occupational stress, improve decision making, reduce staff turnover, etc. Leaders with high emotional intelligence are able to make better decisions & are able to engage & influence others more effectively. High emotional intelligence makes a person ambitious, strong-willed, decisive, sociable, patient, good listener, consistent, careful, systematic, etc. These are the qualities that a good leader must also possess, so, I will conclude by saying that by being aware of your own emotional intelligence will surely make you a better leader.
