Scenario: Coffee Lovers Corporation is coffee company and coffee house which has operation and locations in Canada. Due to some ethical issues with previous senior management they were all fired. However, financially the company was excelling with 13% market share in restaurant business and 40% in the Canada coffee market. You were brought in by the new senior level management to analyzed what caused this issue to occur, and how could Coffee Lovers Corporation prevent this from ever happening again. After a 6 month investigation you determined the issues was with the company toxic culture. The company had an aggressive culture which led to many verbal harassment complaints. Furthermore, after questioning all the employees you determine to prevent this from happening again the company culture must change. Your recommendation to the senior level management is to shift the culture to Team Oriented. After hearing your report the senior level management agrees with your assessment and are going to shift the companies culture. How are they going to change the culture? *

Here, based on the above case, Coffee Lovers Corporation has improved their market share in Canadian market, however, this company has faced many ethical issues and many employees were fired on that ground. I was given role to investigate several causes as responsible for emerging such ethical issues, based on my investigation; I found that this company has toxic organizational culture. Hence, organizational culture needs shift and change in a way that bring more team orientation. There are several way organizational culture can be changed and improved, these points are as stated below:

  • Making every communication much transparent and clearly set, with such process, information flow becomes more effective; employees can gain their trust on the organization. There should be clear objective set for any activities that to be pursued within the organizational environment.
  • Culture gets changed with recognizing and rewarding every valued contribution of each employee and other stakeholder. In such circumstances, employees should receive their recognition, they should be empowered as well to participate various organizational activities and share their opinion to bring out critical decision making.
  • Build an environment that cultivates strong relationship and connectivity among employees. With such initiatives, we can bring change in the current culture and situation, employees become more connected and they can perform brainstorming either individually or in group. With such practices, organization will definitely improve their cultural level.
  • Bring more flexibility for the employees; such flexibility could be earned in terms of keeping work from home, flexible working hours, flexible shift timing, and incentive for working hard towards the company.
  • Organization should build team orientation; they should understand choices, passion of every team members and give them regular feedback, assess with finding training requirements and manage training activities for employees. With such initiative, we can definitely change organizational culture.
