1. How did the rise of "big business" change social classes in the United States?
The term Big Business refers to large corporations that follows unfair trade practices to eliminate competition, create monopoly and make huge profits. The Big Businesses occupied or eliminated the existing small business competitors using mergers and acquisitions on a very large scale that started influencing the basic social and political set-up of USA. The Big Businesses were no doubt supported and even funded by political people specially those were in power.
The ugly rise of Big Businesses created social distress that begins when As technology continued to advance during the period of industrial revolution , the skilled workers began to lose their jobs to machines. and the unskilled lose their jobs to skilled workers. But the corporations continuously becomes more powerful and the poor and decentralized work force was force to form labor unions.
The main task of labor unions and their leaders was to represent the labor force against the powerful corporations an their own bosses. They show their objections through peaceful strikes and protests that eventually started become violent into riots and chaos.
Also child labor was a very common practice in USA during emergence of Big Businesses.
However political reformations took place in the welfare of USA and it passed various laws in favor of the common citizens of the country and to regulate the so called Big Businesses in the nation. In new USA the industries and companies still works to create new products and knows their responsibilities towards the society.
