Psychoanalysis was founded by Sigmind freud and his study was based on that people could be cured if their unconscious state of mind was brought to conscious.Their thoughts and motivations in the unconscious should be realized. He felt that our suffering basically stems from incidents that may have affected us in the past and the treatment focuses on bringing th conflict to consciousness. The different techniques that were used are free association, interpretation of dreams .

Rational emotive behaviour therapy was founded by Albert Ellis and it is a kind of cognitive behaviour therapy and focuses on changing irrational beliefs and thoughts. He believed that if we changed our perception to a problem we would be able to overcome it.For example if a student was afraid to take exams ,he will be asked to think of the thoughts that prevent him from taking exams, and change in those particular thoughts will help him to overcome the fear. This therapy is used by practioners in the medical field in the treatment of physcial and psychological symptoms.
