Solutions

Expert Solution

The reaction generating NADH in the Glycolysis pathway is reaction no. 6. It will generate two molecules of NADH as Dihydroxyacetone phosphate will also be converted to Glyceraldehyde 3 Phosphate which will convert to 1,3 Bisphosphoglycerate with help of enzyme dehydrogenase and NADH is produced.

The allosteric enzyme in the Glycolysis pathway is Phosphofructokinase which catalyzes the reaction no. 3. This enzyme helps in the regulation of glycolysis. It is inhibite by ATP, Citrate and acidic pH whereas stimulated by AMP, ADP, Fructose 2,6 bisphosphate.. Glycolysis:

Glucose+2 NAD + 2 ADP+ 2 pi------> 2 Pyruvate+ 2 NADH+ 2 H + 2 ATP + 2 H2O.

Glycogenesis is the polymerization of glucose into glycogen. thermodynamically it is an endergonic process and requires ATP and UTP. It occurs mainly in the muscle and the liver.

Glycogen synthase is the key enzyme of the glycogenesis that links two glucose residues on an already existing chain of glucose molecules.

glucagon increases glycogen breakdown whereas insulin enhances glycogenesis.

The enzyme enolase catalyzes the following reaction in the glycolysis pathway (Chapter 14): 2-phosphoglycerate ® phosphoenolpyruvate + H2O Dehydration of 2-phosphoglycerate (2PG) results in phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP), which is a high-energy phosphate donor that can be used to phosphorylate ADP to make ATP.
