Determine which main social theories (Functional, Conflict, or Interaction) each statement is and please explain why
1. For many women (not all), an engagement ring is a symbol of commitment, and if she does not receive this ring, then she does not move forward with plans for marriage.
2. Marriage gives people a better chance at survival, because in this country, married couples get perks like tax cuts and insurance breaks, which give them more money for food and shelter.
3. Until recently, the only persons who could legally marry in most states were heterosexual couples.
4. Married people are less likely to endanger themselves or the public by committing criminal activity.
5. Some individuals get married because one is in love, others for the money, and still others due to pressure from family; These reasons can affect the quality of the marriage.
6. Within (heterosexual) marriages from all different social classes, if there are children, the female is more often expected to do more of the childcare activities even if both she and her husband have employment which takes up an equal amount of time
1. interaction social theory. as the women have attached a symbol as per the norms of the society and through the interactions with it for the commitment and if that symbol is not present then the feelings of commitment are not felt and hence they do not proceed to marry.
2. functional. this is because the people are living together in harmony to maintain balance and social equilibrium and for the working of the society
3. conflict. this shows that heterogenous couples or people had power and more benefits in the society in comparison to homosexuals
4. functional. this shows that living together with your partner creates a sense of togetherness in you and you start living in harmony with the people and maintain the balance of the society
5. conflict as different interest groups have different behavioral cues and hence depending upon the interest of the marriage the quality suffers
6. interactional. as females have been symbolised and taught by the social interactions that they are responsible for bearing a child and also that its their duty to take care of him. hence they put in more efforts.
