According to psychoanalytic theory personality is composed of three structures,ID,Ego and SuperEgo.These three structures work together to develop our personality.When there is a balance between these three,a healthy personality and when there is a conflict or imbalance,it leads to maladaptive personality development.
A person who has good ego strength,i.e. can view things realistically can manage the pressures effectively and create a balance between id impulses and rightness or wrongness of actions(super ego).This leads to a healthy and well adjust personality.
According to the trait theory,our personality is a combination of characteristics which are stable over time and make us unique from others.These traits influence our ways of thinking and behaving which makes our personality.Based on such traits,like openness,being friendly,sociable,shy,optimistic,moody etc. we behave differently in different situations.According to Eysenck,we are born with certain traits and temperament which explains the personality differences.
According to social learning theory,our personality is developed by the interactions we have with our environment.It is learned through observation,imitation and modeling.We interact with different people,observe their actions,which influences our personality.When we see behaviour being reinforced,we tend to imitate that behaviour and make it part of our personality.
I think trait theory works for me,since I believe that we are born with certain traits that define who we are as a person.The characteristics and temperaments present at birth,influence our interactions with the world around us.The core inborn traits remain the same throughout life,but the rest of the peripheral traits we acquire through experiences.
