There are five psychological theories of motivation which can improve employee’s quality of work, increase productivity, give job satisfaction and can reduce turnover as well. As a manager, the most important one is the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. It is very important to meet the employees’ needs for the company’s good sake. This hierarchy is made of five layers. They are as follows:
Question: Do you agree with the posted above? why?
I agree with the post that Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is significant in an individual's life. The rationale for this is that unlike the other theories of motivation, Maslow's theory includes the basic factors from level one in the pyramid. If we were to compare the Hierarchy of needs with Herzberg's two-factor motivation theory, the motivators used in both theories are different.
According to Herzberg, only higher levels of satisfaction are considered as motivation. These factors include recognition, incentives, and rewards. Maslow's theory incorporates every need from basic, social needs, safety needs, psychological needs, and self-actualization. These needs are not covered by Herzberg's two-factor theory. One of the most important motivators for employees is the meaningfulness of the work and Maslow's theory covers this in the highest level of the pyramid. Similarly, Vroom's theory, McGregor's theory, and McClelland's theory fail to consider factors from both limits which is why Maslow's theory is vital in determining or explaining an Individual's needs and motivations.
