choose one type of space truss structure for a 100m span hangar and a 30m span gas station, respectively, and explain the reason briefly
A space truss is a truss that consists of members joined together at their end to form a stable three-dimension structure.
1. 100m span Hangar-
For a 100m span hangar, Double-layer grids type of Space Truss can be used. Because Double-layer grids have many advantages compared to other types of roof structures. Double-layer grids have three-dimensional load distribution in all parts of the structure. This causes a reduction in the weight of the structure by carrying loads with more members instead of a single one, and thus maximum deflection along the structure is reduced. every component of the double-layer grids is prefabricated, and so the quality of each part is higher and the tolerance is lower compared to in-situ structures.
2. 30m Span gas station -
For 30m span gas station, Simple space truss or Double layer grids can be used. In Simple space truss can be built from the basic tetrahedral, formed by connecting six members with four joints. Advantage of this space truss is that they are indeterminate. So the failure of one or a few numbers of members on the structure does not necessarily lead to the collapse of the structure completely.
