In which stages of the data investigation cycle would you consider (a) level of measurement and (b) choice of research design? Explain. (open-ended question)

Solutions

Expert Solution

As we know there are several stages of the data investigation cycle such as set up hypotheses, planning of the investigation, the process of data collection, statistical data analysis, corrective actions, and reporting of the results for data investigation. We need to analyze different types of variables during the data investigation. During the stage of statistical data analysis, we need to consider the level of measurement of each variable, because our actions would depend on the level of measurements. For different levels of measurement, we would change the statistical methods associated with the investigation. We will consider the choice of research design during the planning of the investigation. It is very important to select the specific type of research design for the specific type of research scenario. There are several types of research designs are available such as case-study, observational study, field experiment, quasi-experiment, etc.

Consider an ideal gas turbine cycle with two stages of compression and two stages of expansion.  The pressure ratio across each compressor stage and each turbine stage is 5 to 1. The pressure at the entrance to the first compresor is 100 kPa, the temperature entering each compressor is 25°C (298 K), and the temperature entering each turbine is 1100°C (1373 K). An ideal regenerator is also incorporated into the cycle.  For the air involved, it may be assumed that Cp =...
