Could you please tell me and Explain the type of data, variable and level of measurement of problem 8E Chapter 2??
Type of data :-
There are two types of data given as following types:-
Qualitative data: This type of data describes something in words, not numbers. Often (not always),
For example :-
feelings, emotions, or subjective perceptions of something.
gender, socieo economic status, religious preference are usually considered to be qualitative data
Quantitative data: The data describes something in numbers i.e. measurements of something.
For example:-
scores on achievement tests, number of hours of study, or weight of a subject.
Four Types of Variables
nominal", "ordinal", "interval", and "ratio" are often referred to as levels of measure .
These four data measurement scales (nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio)
Level of measurement :-
Nominal scales are used for labeling variables, without any quantitative value. For example:-
male/female
In ordinal scales, the order of the values is important and significant, but the differences between each one is not really known.
ordinal scales allow comparisons of the degree to which two subjects possess the dependent variable.
For example, our satisfaction ordering (1- not satisfied ,2-satisfied ,3- very satisfied) makes it meaningful to compare .
Interval scales
Interval scales are numerical scales in which intervals have the same interpretation.
for example, temperature difference between 30 degrees and 40 degrees represents the same temperature difference as the difference between 80 degrees and 90 degrees.
ratio scale
In this level of measurement, the observations, in addition to having equal intervals.
examples of ratio variables include height, weight, and duration.
