“ In the past two decades many organizations have moved from a traditional, bureaucratic, hierarchical structure to a flatter structure with self-managed teams. Discuss what structural and job design changes may be needed to make the transition. In addition discuss the type of training both leaders/facilitators and team members should receive to be more effective in a team environment.” AT LEAST 400 WORDS THX!
When organizations start moving from a traditional structure to a flatter one with self-managed teams, nuch effort is required both from management and the employees. Proper planning and understanding the need for transition in the organization helps in designing an effective structure. Teams which are capable to work together and have experience in planning and decision making must be formed. Team leaders must be efficient and must be able to lead their teams in a successful manner. Teachnological advancements are also important to establish a more decentralised system because communication plays a major role. The management must set guidelines and an ethical culture where all the employees need to work on these ethical principles while working with their teams and must involve in the work the team does and the decisions the team takes.
Proper training must be provided for the teams as it would be a huge change from following the decisions of management to taking decisions along with the management. They must be aware of the consequences of the decisions they take and must have the knowledge of what needs to be done and how the decision effects others in the organization. The management also needs to be trained on the new system they are about to follow and how they need to guide their teams and support their decisions. Both employees and the management need to work on how to stay united and develop the organization.
