List and give an example of 5 of the 6 indicators of abnormality
Abnormality-
Abnormality refers to undesirable behaviour, out if ordinary behaviour and it may be results from impairment in individual's functioning.Abnormality is considered deviant from specific societal, cultural and ethical expectations which are broadly dependent on age, gender, traditional and societal categorizations. for example, i expect that children of 2 years can talk and walk but when a children unable to perform these task may be termed as abnormal.
Indicators of abnormality
Generally there are few important indicators of abnormality, they are-
1) Distress
2) Maladaptiveness
3) Irrationality
4) Unpredictability
5) Unconventionality and undesirable behaviour
Example of indicators
1) Distress- Ramesh become unease and show high level of anxiety for getting low scores in exam. Generally it refers when a person become more stressed for some unidentifiable cause or very simple and ordinary cause.
2) Maladaptiveness- Titon do not ask questions to his teacher because he thinks that if he ask questions teacher will beat him. Generally it means avoiding a threat or unpleasant situation.
3) Irrationality- i give a gift to a person and I expect that he will say "thank you" to me, it is normal and reasonable but instead of saying "thank you" he punch me on the face after taking the gift and just walking away laughing like a clown for no reasons or reasons unknown to me. Generally it is unreasonable behaviour wherein no reason for action.
4) Unpredictable behaviour- a person driving a carcar very fast and after sometime he face a serious accident which lead to serious impairment in his body and bleeding. Generally it is erratical and inconsistent behaviour which might indicate loss of control.
5) Unconventionality and undesirable behaviour- a man is sexually harassing a woman in the society. Generally this type of behavior do not follow and violates rules, regulations, values and norms of the society which is morally unacceptable and undesirable.
