Consider freshwater as a resource.
2) Identify how pollution occurs on freshwater sources.
3) Describe the mitigation measures that curb water pollution
4) discuss how to ensure fresh water is available in long run.
2) Pollution on freshwater sources has become a serious global issue which affects basic hygene levels especially in those regions where there is no adequate control and measures.
Pollution of freshwater pollution is caused by the contamination
of inland flow of water with substances that make it unfit for its
natural utilisation and use it for intended purpose. Pollution may
be caused by , chemicals, pesticides, petroleum, sediment, fecal
waste etc.. Polluted rivers, lakes and streams are unfit for
swimming and fishing. It is unsafe to drint polluted water.
3) Mitigation measures that curb water pollution can be done by
enforcing very strict enforcement and actions to prevent
pollution.
Very first thing is facilitating knowledge and awareness to general public about current pollution levels and its implications.
Disposal of household and industrial wastes must be processed in the most efficient way so that they do not get mixed with fresh water sources.
Proper cleaning methods and techniques must be used along with appropriate filtering of water depending of the level of pollution that contaminates water. Clean and maintain catch basins, drainage ditches, and culverts on regular basis.
Storage of water for demestic utilities must be well protected from contaminents.
4) Governments need to spend large sums of money to finance for infrastructure development behind clean water supplies and on systematic improvements to storage and delivery. A high priority and importance must be given to underground reservoirs which have a huge potential.
Usage of less water must be made for irrigation purposes. Irrigation uses about 70% of freshwater. The amount of water used can be reduced to irrigate plants by implementing methods such as drip irrigation. Usage of sprinklers at appropriate locations can be made to water wherever it is absolutely necessary. This avoids excess water which goes as wastage.
Apply rain water harvesting to its utmost advantage by providing proper pipes, channelling and storage sumps, tanks or larger catchment areas.
Conservation of trees will help retain water indirectly by absorbing and releasing it to atmosphere.
Finally it is the responsibility of each and every person in this world to ensure sustainance of fresh water supply in the long run. Fresh water supports the basic existance of life globally.
