explain the victim-blaming theory and victim contribution to the crime theory. How are they similar and different in their victim assessments?
Victim blaming theory is based on the assumption that a victim is partially pr completely to be blamed for a particular crime that has been committed against them.
This theory posits blame onto the victim and lead to the terminology of victimization. It theorizes that every crime can be avoided by necessary precautions and it is an onus upon the victim to do every thing in their power to practice safety.
The vicarious blame that falls onto the shoulder of a victim of a crime is what one would terms as the victim contribution to crime.
A classic example of both the given theories above would be the sexual assault that takes place against women of our society.
Firs instance, "She brought it on herself by inviting him over..." would be an example of victim blaming theory.
And, "She should not have taken the ally at night" would be an example of victim contribution to crime theory.
Victim blaming takes a negative tone when addressing the victim assessment whereas the latter takes a more concerned tone, although both the theories can sound dogmatic if pushed too much.
