The life-course theory[LCT] is a holistic approach to study the human's course of life. It is a multidisciplinary approach that studies human life from birth to death, changing culture, relationships, traditions, and history.

The social cognitive theory[SCT] focuses on the learning of behaviors and actions in the various dynamic environmental contexts. There is a reciprocal process of learning that interplay between the person, environment, and behavior.

Similarities-

  • Both focus on the societal influence on human beings.
  • Both talks about the interplay of society, the person and his actions

Differences

  • The life-course theory is a holistic study of the human timeline. SCT talks about present learning of human beings
  • LCT is more dynamic in the sense it plays close attention to culture, human relationship, past, and future. SCT is more confined to only three elements like behavior, environment and the person.
