What three recommendations would you give the US Army to implement or improve their diversity efforts?
In the case of the army, the consideration for diversity efforts
has more to do with inclusion than finding individuals, due to the
presence of one of the strongest forms of cultures we can observe
anywhere. This has more to do with the presence of bias and the
tendency for neglect than anything else. This is why, in order to
improve the diversity efforts, we will first need to remove the
prevalent bias that is present through audits and looking into the
history of cases in the past that featured assaults, or how to
leave is sanctioned, and if a trend can be observed within the set
structure. Diversity efforts would need to include smaller teams,
with two to four individuals from different diversities in order to
allow the individuals to separate from their herding mentality and
groupthink and appreciate diversity for what it truly represents,
recognizing that there are different but that is what makes every
individual unique, learn from their style, form unique bonds which
would not have happened if the individual were part of their own
groups. Armies have always shown respect trust to be at the core of
their groups and this is why, breaking a group down would be a hard
and gradual process, and, we should not expect the individuals to
just accept the change, rather, they should be given the necessary
time to adjust to their newer environment, especially if they are
feeling out of place to ensure that they can form the necessary
place and trust within the group, as it is essential for their work
and even, some cases, their survival.
