Treatment of sex offenders

  • Psychological- CBT is the most effective/efficient and highly applied and practiced. It focusses/concentrates on ongoing maladaptive/dangerous/deviant behavioral and thought patterns. It helps/assist the sex offenders to identify, recognize and trace their maladaptive patterns. Psychologist port therapist after identification - helps in changing or modifying these patterns into adaptive ones. Further, there is a focus on relapse prevention, self-control
  • Medical- There are various drugs that might be helpful but these are rarely used. These incorporate antilibidinal medications, antipsychotics, and serotonergic antidepressants.These help in suppressing testosterone levels.
  • Physical- These include surgical castration and hormonal therapy. Surgery is based on the permission and consent of the offender. Hormonal therapy tries to bring balance within the sex provoking hormones.
