This Standard establishes the information that should be provided with the product by the manufacturer, basic safety and performance instructions that should be provided for the operator of the device for clinical use and the measurement techniques that can be used to determine whether the device conforms with the safety and performance criteria or not.

TENS - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulators:

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulators are used in the treatment of pain syndromes. TENS devices are generally intended for use on intact with skin and mucous membranes.

TENS device is a battery powered, Portable device which does not require any surgical intervention or violation of skin surface.

AAMI provides standard for minimum safety and performance requirements of the stimulus generator device. It also imposes Limits on the output characteristics.
