Methods of the proper collection and preservation of fiber evidence in a criminal investigation include;

1. Using a special vacuum, sticky tape, and forceps a pair of forceps we should collect an “unknown” piece of fiber evidence found on the “victim.”
   2. We should place the piece of evidence on a clean piece of paper. The paper should be folded twice to avoid contaminating the evidence.
   3. A wet-mount slide should be prepared of the evidence by placing a drop of water on the slide.
   4. The fiber evidence should be placed on it very carefully and the evidence should be covered with a coverslip.
   5. A microscope should be used to make observations of the fiber evidence under low, medium, and high magnification.

According to departmental policy and collection method protocols packaging must be completed. In order to prevent cross-contamination, each piece of evidence must be packaged separately. Each package should be sealed in order to prevent handling, as well as to save and protect the evidence.
