The business structure of our department is a functional structure. The organization is divided into smaller functional units based on their specialty and functionality. The organization is divided into different departments like finance, HR, operations, etc. In operations department as well, functional structure is used and the department is divided into smaller units of planning team, organizing, team, controlling team and monitoring team.

  1. One contributing factor or one advantage of this functional structure is that a team specializes in its work. The best and alike people are kept in a team to deliver the common objective. Knowledge and information sharing is easy and holistic in this type of structure. Also the work allocated to different teams gets finished quickly as the team specializes in doing that work.
  2. Even in HR and accounting department, the use of functional structure enables both the departments to divide in teams full of experts, who can do their job in the best way. This saves cost as the scope of error is limited. Also this structure enables the effective utilization of resources as all individuals in a team get equal opportunity and visibility in the company.
