Describe the uterus from the sperm’s perspective
Answer-
The female uterus is muscular hollow organ. It is also known as womb. It is situated between the rectum and the urinary bladder. It is pyriform in shape .
It is divided into three parts. The uppermost part of the uterus is called Fundus . The middle portion is called body. The lower part is known as cervix.
1. Fundus is the part from where the fallopian tubes emerge on both the sides.
2. The body of the uterus lies between the fundus and the isthmus. ( Constriction in the portion just inferior to the middle part of the uterus is called as isthmus).
3. Cervix is the lowermost part of the uterus lying below the isthmus.
After the ejaculation of semen into the vag!na, the sperms travel through the vag!na to reach the cerix ( lowermost part of the uterus). They travel through the narrow cervix and isthmus to reach the body of the uterus ( the middle and broader part of the uterus). From the body of the uterus , they reach the fallopian tubes within 40-60 minutes. The movement of sperms from vag!na to fallopian tubes is facilitated by a number of factors-
1. Antiperistaltic contractions of uterine muscles.
2. Oxytoxin secreted from female's pituitary.
3. Prostaglandin present in semen.
