Consider the nature-nurture debate. Which of these factors do you believe best explains human development? Why?

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • Nature versus Nurture debate is the longest running debate regarding human development.Nature refers to genes and hereditary factors which influences our personality and development, whereas Nurture refers to the environmental factors including childhood experiences, social relationships etc. which influences our development.
  • In my opinion, both factors play an equal role in human development. Both these factors interact with each other to explain development. For example, height of an individual is influenced by both nature and nurture. A child might be born in a family where everyone is tall, and he/she may inherit these genes for height. (nature)
  • However, if he/she grows up in a deprived environment where he/she does not receive proper nourishment, exposure to physical activities for development, he/she might never attain the height he/she might have had he grown up in a healthier environment.(nurture)
