Consider the debate over the validity of projective tests. Do you believe that people reveal underlying aspects of their personality in their responses to unstructured stimuli, such as inkblots? Why or why not?
projective tests are used to measure personality charactersitcs.The most used are the rorschac inkblot test and thematic appreciation test for assesment.These tests help to determine the personality and contain subject and objective features and bring out responses that are of behaviour and differ from each other .Projective tests rely mostly from the less conscious level of one's thinking while answering these tests.They are usually used in theurapatic settings and in all ages from children to adults.It is highly subjective so it can change from one person to another while examining.This is a test to reveal hidden conflicts and internal emotions.These tests help to understand the attitudes,beliefs and motivations of the person who is taking the test.The technique involves the person to have a visual stimuli ,sentences and complete them as to what comes in their mind.The results could be interpreted by the researcher or the person performing these tests so their validity would depend on the person who is interpreting the tests.Roshac inkblot tests have been useful in person with schizoprenia and how they visualized a particular ink blot test and process visual information.The visual information would reflect on the less conscious level of the person determining the personality and underlying mental health condition of the person.
