Discuss how modernity beyond Enlightenment may seem to have opposed theology in giving less attention to specifically theological reflections on human nature
Religions held the rein of the life
of people for so long. They even controlled kings and lands. They
held the belief that everyone is a slave to God and anything beyond
the Church and the scriptures is immoral. Enlightenment brought a
sea of change throughout Europe which started to celebrate people,
creativity and breaking all the clutches of religion.
One of the primary reason behind it was science and rising
philosophical thoughts that questioned the existence of God and its
entities such as religion and clergies. The role of the Church and
the clergies became only facilitating the religious rituals. People
started celebrating liberal arts and creative arts which were
considered as immoral by the Church.
Individualistic societies where industrialization was on the rise
was putting God and his existence under question thus shaking the
fundamental beliefs of the Christian values and faith. There was an
increasing mind-set among the scholars and governments in terms of
individual rights that are not governed by religion. Almost all the
developed countries including the US made it in their constitution
that people have the freedom to practice any religion that they
want and religion will not interfere with the State affairs.
