6) In our body, there are many types’ of tissues which perform
their physiological function according to our body’s requirement.
Some of the tissues are soft, fluid and hard in nature. When we are
growing old, the hard type of tissue becomes weak and doctors
generally prescribe supplements which are required to strengthen
them. Based on the above discussion, answer the following
questions.
a) List the possible supplements that can be taken to strengthen
the above mentioned tissue. Justify your answer.
b) Explain the different types of cells that can be seen in this
tissue and explain its origin and their mechanism?
when we are growing old, the hard type of tissue becomes weak.
a) The hardest tissue in the body is the bone, tooth enamel and dentin. as we grow old that hard tissue demineralizes and becames weak.
possible supplements to strengthen the bone and teeth are
1. calcium is the major supplement because it the building block of the bone
2. vitamin D is the second major beacuse calcium alone cannot be absorbed from the gut, vit D helps in the absorption of the calcium
3. magnesium is another supplement which aids in the regulation of calcium in the body.
4. vitamin K2 will be given some times beacuse it a coenzyme for the proteins which are used inthe bone metabolism.
b)
There are four different types of cells present in the bone they are,
1. osteogenic cells: origin is primitive mesenchymal cells, location is deep layers of the periosteum and marrow. function is these develop into osteoblasts
2. osteoblasts: they orginate from the bone marrow, they help in the formation of the bone
3. osteocytes : these are derived from the osteoblasts. they are present in matrix. their function is to maintain mineral concentration in the matrix.
4. oseteoclasts: they orginate from the bone marrow and are related to the WBC. they are lacated on the surface of the bone. their major function is bone resorption
