  1. Describe the body plans of animals. Include types of symmetry, germinal tissues, body cavities, and protostome vs. deuterostome development.

Solutions

Expert Solution

# Symmetry

Animals can be divided into three types based on the body plane of symmetry. They are,

Asymmetry; There is no plnane of symmetry. eg. sponge

Bilaterlly semmetry; Animal can be divided into two equal half at only one point. eg. annelid

Radially symmetry; Animal can be divided into two equal half at any point. eg., echinoderms

# Germinal tissue layer

There are three layers in the germ tissues of the animal. They are ectoderm, mesoderm and

endoderm.

Diploblast; Made of two layers. ectoderm and endoderm. eg. cnidaria

Triploblast; Made of three layers, ecto, meso and endoderm. eg; annelids

# Body cavities (Coelom)

Based on the presence of body cavity animals can be divided into three types. This is a cavity located between the intestinal canal and the body wall.

Acoelomate; No body cavity. eg., Platyhelminthes

Pseudoceolomate; A false coelom is present. eg., Nemathelminthes

Coelomates; A true coelom is present

# Protostomes; First mouth develops from the blastospore. eg. invertebrates

# Deutrostomes; First anal canal forms from the blastospore. eg. Chordates.

Melanism in Moths. Melanism is the process by which animals produce melanin to darken body tissues and produce color variation. Researchers at Oxford University suspected increased levels of pollution in London may be influencing the evolution of Lepidoptera, a species of moth native to the area that took on one of two distinct camouflage schemes: "light" and "dark." They surveyed a sample of dark and light moths on birch trees and labelled each "conspicuous" if it was visible from 30...

6) In our body, there are many types’ of tissues which perform their physiological function according to our body’s requirement. Some of the tissues are soft, fluid and hard in nature. When we are growing old, the hard type of tissue becomes weak and doctors generally prescribe supplements which are required to strengthen them.
