There are mainly three types of muscle tissues present in our body-smooth muscles, cardiac muscles and skeletal muscles.
The smooth muscles are non-striated,spindle-shaped and contains one nucleus per cell. The actin and myosin motors are present in the cytoplasm of any muscle tissues for contraction. Smooth muscles can be of two type- single-unit and multiunit smooth muscles. The location of the smooth cells in our body is the internal organs such as reproductive organs, respiratory organs, digestive organs (stomach, intestine),arteries and veins, eyes and skin. The smooth muscles function in Involuntary contraction of muscle involving cross-bridging of actin and myosin mediated via the autonomic nervous system.
The cardiac muscles are striated, branched and contains one nucleus per cell.It contains the fibroblast, cardiomyocyte and smooth muscle cells as well and their contraction is controlled intrinsically. It is mainly present in the heart and functions in highly coordinated contraction and pumping of heart via involuntary movement. It has been considered as the most powerful muscles among all because it works efficiently throughout lifetime.
The skeletal muscles are striated, tubular and have many nuclei within it. It remains attach to the skeleton and functions by voluntarily contraction under the somatic nervous system control. Its attachment with bone occurs by the help of bundle of collagen fibers, therefore the location of skeletal muscles is between bones. It functions in movement and stabilization of bones and joints, maintains the posture.
