Find x/y given 2x + y = 35 and 3x + 4y = 65?

Find \( \frac{x}{y} \) given 2x + y = 35 and 3x + 4y = 65?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution:

Equations given are:

2x + y = 35      Eq. I

3x + 4y = 65       Eq. II

Multiplying Eq. I by 4:

                     8x + 4y = 140          - Eq. III

Subtracting Eq. II from Eq. III:

 5x = 75

x = \( \frac{75}{5} \) = 15

Substitute x = 15 in Eq. I:

2 (15) + y = 35

30 + y = 35

y = 35 - 30

y = 5

Hence,

\( \frac {x}{y} = \frac {15}{5} \)

= 3

The value of \( \frac {x}{y}~ is ~3 \)
