Ownership to learning can be comprehended as one's motivation to engage in self-directed learning. Ownership to learning also relates to the action of monitoring one's own progress and reflecting on one's learning, post mastering the material to learn. It is important to note that active learning contain aspects of frequent feedback, attention, participation and discussion. It helps in the development of critical thinking. On the other hand, passive learning takes place by the presentation of information. The control is with the teacher. For passive learning the teacher has to organize and present the topic that she will be teaching.

The role of the course instructor in the learning process is to facilitate passive learning in the best possible way. This will involve imparting theoritical knowledge to the students. It is important to note that for active learning, one would have to engage the students in practical application of the theoretical knowledge. Practical knowledge taps relatively greater attention and requires one's participation.

The role of peer assessment in the learning process is that peer assessment can help in providing feedback to the person learning a particular material. Peers are generally from the same class and of same age. Peer reviews help to provide insight into the subject matter that the peers themselves are learning. Peers also have an understanding of the course material. So, peer assessment can be critical in the learning process. Peers are expected to provide constructive feedback to their peers, which can help in learning the course material. Peers help in group studies, thereby making learning a fun experience.
