1. What is the molarity of a solution of NaOH if 23.4 mL required to neutralize 25 mL of 0.25M H2SO4?

2.What is the pH of a solution produced by dissolving 1.5g HCI to make 1L of solution?

Please help, step by step solutions .. thanks!

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. 2NaOH + H2SO4 ---------> Na2So4 + 2H2O

   2 mole     1 mole

NaOH                                             H2So4

M1 =                                               M2   = 0.25M

V1   = 23.4ml                                    V2 = 25ml

n1 = 2                                               n2 = 1

       M1V1/n1   =   M2V2/n2

        M1             = M2V2n1/V1n2

                        = 0.25*25*2/23.4*1    = 0.534M

molarity of NaOH = 0.534M

2. molarity =   W/G.M.Wt* volume of solution in L

                   = 1.5/36.5*1   = 0.041M

HCl -----------------> H+ + Cl-

0.041M                   0.041M

   {H+] = [HCl]

   [H+]   = 0.041M

   PH   = -log[H+]

           = -log0.041   = 1.3872
