American Psychological Association laid out certain principles and guidelines to be followed by every researcher in the process of a research study. The functions of code of ethics include;

Consent, the subject's consent to participate in the study is of utmost importance. The subject must volunteer to be a part of the study and not forced.

Safety of the subject in the process of the study must be assured. No harm must be caused to the subject. The subject must be kept informed about the processes at every step.

Confidentiality of the information collected during the research is essential. The researcher is not allowed to divulge information obtained from a subject. It must be kept confidential.

Integrity includes honest and transparent practices must be carried out. There must be no ulterior motives hidden.

The code of ethics ensures that the researcher follows a certain guidelines in the process of a research study.
