Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory describes how human behaviour is motivated by their needs. The first need at the bottom of the triangle is :
Physiological- This refers to those that sustain us such as air, food , water and shelter. These needs are fullfilled by an individual by having the finances to procure them. Which leads to the next level- Safety.
Safety-The need for safety and physiological needs leads one to look for good employment that brings income to allow one to buy food, housing, shelter, clothing, protection from danger, healthcare and so forth.
Love and belonging- The next is the need for love and belonging, this motivates an individual to form relationships and good bonds with family and friends to feel belonged and give and recieve love. Every individual has the need to feel part of a group. People socialize and take part in social activites to fullfill this need.
Self- Esteem- The higher level in the hierarchy of needs is self esteem and self actualization. Once an inidividual acquires the other three levels he does his best to maintain his status quo, sense of esteem and status. This is achieved by performing well personally and professionaly. Contributing to the community and others around them enables their self-esteem. The need for freedom and purpose is seen in this level.
Self actualization- The highest level of the hierarchy is where one wants to achieve and do what they are fully capable of doing. This is the height of their peak experiences. Self- actualization is achieved when an individual is enabling themselves to create or innovate something through art or literature in personal or private settings. This is the need to do more once they find their purpose.
