  • Sperm propel themselves through the motion of flagella containing microtubules.
  • Microtubules serve as a track for two classes of motor protein  namely, kinesins and dyneins.
  • Dynein drives the motion of one member of each outer pair relative to the other, causing the overall structure to bend.
  • Tail of the sperm is composed of flagellum , which contain a central skeleton constructed of 11 microtubules collectively termed the axoneme and a thin cell membrane covering the axoneme.
  • Capacitation of sperm is important in fertilization.
  • Polymerization of globular (G)-actin to filamentous (F)-actin occurs during capacitation,
  • (F) -actin formation is important for the transloction of phospholipase C from the cytoplasm to the sperm plasma membrane during capacitation.
  • (F) -actin should undergo depolymerization prior to acrosome reaction , which enable the fusion of acrosomal membrane and overlying plasma membrane.
