For this section, write the proper anatomical planes and directions?
1. Stand (or imagine yourself standing) in standard anatomical position. Which plane divides your body into left and right halves?
2. Relative to your sternum, where is your cranium positioned? Your second thoracic vertebra?
3. Relative to your sacrum, where is your ilium positioned? Your femora?
4. Relative to your humerus, where is your ulna positioned? Your scapula?
1) The Sagittal plane or the median plane divides the body into left and right halves.
The saggital plane parallel to the saggital suture and through the midline of the body.
Coronal plane divides body into dorsal and ventral.
Transverse plane divides body into upper and lower parts.
2) Relative to sternum crainum is positioned Superiorly.
Relative to sternum second thoracic vertebrae is positioned Posteriorly (also ventral to strenum).
?Since the cranium (skull) is above the sternum so it is superior to the sternum.
?Sternum is present on the dorsal surface and the second thoracic vertebrae on the ventral surface so it is posterior to the sternum.
3) Relative to sacrum ilium is positioned Laterally.
Relative to sacrum femur is positioned Anterolaterally.
?Sacrum is located posteriorly and medially. It is attached to the ilium on its lateral side so ilium is lateral and proximal to sacrum.
?The femurs are located anteriorly and lateral to the sacrum. Also the femur are distal to sacrum.
4) Relative to humerus, Ulna is positioned Proximally.
Relative to humerus, scapula is positioned Medially.
?Humerum and ulna are located on the same line (lateral) and is proximal (near) to the humerus.
?The scapula is situated near the midline and lateral to it is the humerus. So it is situated Medial to the humerus.
