1. Three muscles are cardiac, skeletal and smooth. Distinguishable features are-

Cardiac- Involuntary and found only in heart.

Skeleton- Voluntary and are anchored by tendons to bone.

Smooth- Involuntary and foind in walls of organs and structures such as esophagus, stomach etc.

2. General functions of muscular tissue are-

  • Mobility- main function of muscular tissue is to allow movement. When muscle contract and relax they allow movement.
  • Stability- Muscle tendons stretched and contribute to stability. Knee and shoulder joint are crucial for stability.
  • Posture- skeleton muscle help keep the body in correct position when someone is sitting or standing.
  • Breathing- breathing involves the use of diaphragm muscle.
  • Circulation- Heart is a muscle which pumps blood throughout the body. The movementis involuntary.

3. Four properties of muscular tissue-

  1. Contractility- it is the ability of the muscle tissue to shorten and contact forcefully.
  2. Excitabilty- it is the ability to generate action potential in response to stimulus.
  3. Extensibilty- it is the ability of muscle to stretch or get longer.
  4. Elasticity- it is the ability to return to its original shape.
