Write a brief description of the emotions in the central nervous system
Emotion is the combination of psychological and physiological experience of the individual's mind and it arises due to external or internal cues. The external cues could be environmental involvement and the internal cues could be biochemical involvement.
In order to experience and process the emotion, there are three main system get involved which are - limbic system, autonomic nervous system and reticular activating system. These systems interact with each other to process the emotion. The limbic system includes the release of neurochemicals such as dopamine ,nonadrenaline and serotonin to experience the emotion and decides whether it is satisfying or not. The reticular system helps in activating the frontal cortical region and thus sensory information and emotion can be interpreted. The automonic nervous system works together with hypothalamus and controls the heart pulses, breathing, blood pressure in response to emotional cues. When autonomic nervous system is activated, the sympathetic branch of it get involved in fight -flight response by adrenaline hormone secretion whereas the parasympathetic branch functions in claming down the body or make it relaxed.
The cerebral cotex (frontal cortex), amygdala (in median temporal lobe) and hippocampus (in temporal lobe of brain ) play a role in sensation, fear based memories creations and emotions.
