What is the mission of the EEOC? What is the mission of Affirmative Action? What is the difference between affirmative action and equal employment opportunity? Do you think there is still a need for affirmative action? What about the EEOC? Why or why not?
The mission of EEOC is to prevent unlawful employment discrimination. It is also in the mission to provide equal opportunity to everyone at the workplace for selection or promotion events.
The mission of affirmative action is to compensate for the damages caused by various discriminatory practices that has taken place over the years. The discriminations usually took place against women and minorities in the past and affirmative action is the attempt to bring balance to compensate for the past.
Equal employment opportunity focuses on prevention of discrimination and to provide an equal chance to everyone. Affirmative action on the other is willing to provide more lenient system to the previously discriminated classes such as women, minorities, etc.
I think there is still need for affirmative actions and EEOC today. This is because even though we have become modern and more aware, our underlying prejudices and discriminatory thoughts have not been eradicated. There are still event of discrimination that happens at workplaces and during interviews. There are discriminations that take place at educational institutes and other areas of our daily lives. Thus we still need the likes of EEOC and affirmative actions.
