1. If you are examining microscopic sample taken from the digestive system and (at first glance) notice that duodenal glands are present BUT do not see goblet cells with sparse villi then ______________

A.you cannot confirm anything and should examine the tissue a second time.

B. you can confirm that you are viewing tissue taken from the stomach

C. you can confirm that you are viewing tissue taken from the large intestine

D. you can confirm you are viewing tissue taken from the duodenum

2.  When examining tissue you need to be able to distinguish the difference between adventitia and serosa. One of the major ways to do this is by noting __________

These two structures are identical (within the digestive system). The only difference is the location where each is found

A. Adventitia dos not have mesothelium and serosa does

B. Adventitia is connective tissue that is not continuous with the surrounding tissues.

C. Serosa is thick relative to adventitia

D. The only area in the body with adventitia is the esaphogus.

3. Near the muscularis mucosae, the bases of the gastric glands contain fewer parietal cells but many more zymogenic chief cells.

A. True

B. False

Solutions

Expert Solution

1)OPTION A -.you cannot confirm anything and should examine the tissue a second time.

The microscopic sample contain duodenal glands.

Duodenal gland is the other name of the brunners gland . it is present in the upper part of duodenum .

Function of the brunner gland is it secrete mucin which will protect the duodenal epithelium from the acidic secretion from the stomach.

Also teh microscopy doesnot contain Goblet cell and villi are scanty

it means that the specimen for the microscopy is not correctly taken

If it is a duodenum it contain globlet cells and more number of villi along with the duodenal gland

2)OPTION A - Adventitia dos not have mesothelium and serosa does

Serosa and adventitia can be differentiated from the histology slide by looking the mesothelium

Serosa contain mesothelium but the Adventitia doesnot contain Mesothelium

2 layer of mesothelium layer in the Serosa is held together by the connective tissue layer.

in adventitia there is only connective tissue

Mesothelium layer of the serosa secrete serous fluid , adventitia doesnot have any secreion

3)TRUE

Near the muscularis mucosa , the number of Chief cells are more than the parietal cell.

from the muscularis mucosa to above we can see a layer of chief cell then followed by the parietal cell layer.
