The five major areas that represent the greatest potential for dramatic change in business environment can be discussed as follows:
- Change in work structure: The organizational structure in the corporate world no more follows the ladder model where the top positions hold power and privilege on the decision making and operations but instead work environment is more flexible and collaborative. The promotions are not hierarchy based and the work performance and skills of the employees are evaluated. Consulting the higher levels for advices and reviews is no more complex and difficult instead a flexible format is followed that allows superiors to be more easily reachable to their subordinates. The structure with several layers of management has shriked to a more widened and open structure where the flow of ideas and thoughts is in all directions, horizontal, vertical and diaognal. This type of structure helps in forming new networks, performinf dirrent roles which enchances skills and builds up experiences in different areas. It gives an inididual an opportunity to learn a lot more than what his job profile allows him or he would be exposed to in a ladder style corporate structure.
Artificial Intelligence- The industrial age is being replaced by the digital age. Artificial intelligence is making its strong place in the work environment where for any activity dependence is fully on automated machines which make the work easier and faster. This trend has been evolving from a long time back but its dominance is increasing rapidly with time. From just sending emails or storing files in the computer systems, the trends are developing to practicing all daily activities like meeting through video conferencing, approvals through digital signatures. This use of digitization shows that in near future all manual jobs will be replaced easily by machines and this will increase the work done by gadgets and machines and reduce the dependancy on human resources. Hiring people for every petty position and job is reducing as a single employee is able to manage different areas through this digitalization. Collecting data and organising them as per the organizational need has become easy. Robots are being replaced with manual labour for huge and complicated manufacturing jobs.
- The human resource cloud- The old style of selecting and recruiting employees for positions and jobs are being replaced easily by online hiring of freelancers for working on demand from any location at the pay they agree for. This makes it easy for employers to get the job done by seleting from a vast pool of talented and skillful individuals located in remote areas or any diversified locations all over the world and it becomes viable for the freelancers to work from their location with a time flexibility and gain experience of jobs from their expertise areas. The lengthy and costly process of recruitment is replacing by the easy and quick process of seletion through freelacing. Sites are available where the employers post their work and freelancers bid for completing it. This cloud labour also has drawbacks like lowring wages and increasing inequality. But on the whole the trend is being rapidly practiced in the work environment.
- Easy monitoring at work- The tracking and monitoring of employees work and behaviour is becoming easy with time. WHat the employees are doing and how they are feeling at work effects their performance as well as the company's growth. Hence a check on the same is an important element for the employers who want optimum effeciency from their employees performance. Creating various tools that analyses the employees activities at work and off work helps employers to work on this area. They also take feedback from employees about each other's work performance and behaviour at work which helps them to analyse each one's capability and effeciency to give their potential contribution towards the tasks they are alloted with.
Extended employement age- With improved health conditions and people being more conscious bout their health age long age, their calibre to work in old ages has increased. They are more fit to work physically and mentally at workplaces rather than taking early retirements. This helps the employers to hire employees for longer periods and take the optimum use of their skills and experience and gives the employees an opportunity to derive more remuneration from their calibre and efficiency. The limit of 60-65 years for retirement is an old story now. Flexible and windened work culture puts less pressure on employees to perform tasks and this helps increase their capacity to work in the same work environment.
